These are critical guides to the best of these popular English regions. I went on exhaustive research trips covering virtually everything, and still have (and periodically use!) my copious notes.
Yorkshire and the Peak District Co-written with Guardian reporter Martin Wainwright I wrote the chapters on the region's three national parks - the Yorkshire Dales, the North York Moors and the Peak District. I visited museums, caves, churches and country houses, devising walk routes, and inspecting hotels and B&Bs.
The West Country, co-written with Val Campbell and Polly Phillimore (Holiday Which? staff). I wrote the chapters on Dartmoor, Exmoor, West Somerset and all of Cornwall.
The Lake District, co-written with Val Campbell (who did the introductory chapters). I covered the whole region, including a detailed guide to walking in the area.
