A revision of 30 walks for this best-selling AA guide, with research carried out in winter to meet a tight deadline.
I revised 30 walks in this book, mostly in the west and north of the county.
It took me into some glorious backwaters and little-known villages, including the Vale of Blackmore, up Hambledon Hill, around the back lanes of Shaftesbury, around the estate viillage of Milton Abbas, on to Bulbarrow Hill, as well as more familiar territory such as Abbotsbury, Lyme Regis and The Fleet. I devised a new walk on the Isle of Portland - not an area I'd ever visited before, and found a fascinating landscape of abandoned quarries and winching gear, within strolling distance of Portland Bill's trio of lighthouses and one of the best clifftop cafes I've visited. The Dorset apple cake washed down with a mug of correctly brewed tea was the perfect refreshment.
